SEPTEMBER 2014

- After the beginning of the new term it turned out that 3 partners ( Italy, UK and France) quit our project. The other partners started their work or continued. There was an agreement to upload the first results till end of October in order to discuss them before the exhibitions in November.

One German class made their class trip to London. They visited an exhibition in St. James´ Park about WWI and the red poppies and `Role of Honour` in the Tower of London  to compare the British and German way to memorize the Great War. ( see picture gallery in `Pre- activities)

- After the summer vacation, the Czech students continued working on the project. Unfortunately, only in August ( = on the vacations) there was a great exhibition  about the first world war in the local museum in Vysoké Mýto which a few of the students visited. So these students, who also had taken photos of the exhibition, created a long presentation about the exhibition - this presentation included translations of the accompanying texts - and they also made quizzes for their partners to let them find out and show how carefully they had studied the presentation. The other students worked with information about the First World War in Wikipedia and also created quizzes for their classmates / schoolmates and their partners. This way they got acquainted with the basic events of the war.

- In order to make reading the series of texts in Wikipedia easier for the others and also because we wanted to cooperate as much as possible, we created together a glossary of key words. We wanted the glossary to be in all the languages of the participating schools (German, Czech, Polish, French, Slovak, Turkish ...), but since most of them dropped out, the final glossary includes only English, Czech and German. It was quite interesting to look for similarities and differences in the key words and definitely it was a great help for the students aged 14-15 to understand the texts.

- We wanted not only to learn facts about the World War I, we also wanted to support the active attitude towards learning and so the students worked in pairs and using the www.learningapps.org they created a set of online interactive quizzes to the text about WW1 in Wikipedia. Then they took their peers´ quizzes and also encouraged the partners to do the quizzes.
